Dr.U.Kamachi Mudali, Distinguished scientist, Chairman & Chief Executive of Heavy water Board, Department of Automic Energy, Mumbai, in his Graduation day addressed the students as that it’s the beginning of an exciting journey and is a great day in your life and career. Every moment Challenges and opportunities are growing in India as the progress and developments of the country is happening in an accelerated manner. He insisted on the quantity PEC (per capita electricity consumption) for an average Indian family, the PEC is 4400 kwh /annum, it is demonstrate that substantial increase in power generation needs to be achieved in the coming decades.
Energy is an indispensible factor for developments in society, industry or a country. Without power no progress can be made in economics, living standards, food, agriculture, transport, etc. He recalls that about 22% of population are below the poverty line, Unemployment rate increases by 3.53% in 2018, and among this youth unemployment rate is 12.9%.Literacy
level is 72% in rural areas of India. With only 67% females as literates. The overall youth ( I5 to 24 years) literacy rate is 89.65%, with 91.83% and 87.24% for males and females. respectively. Certainly , for all developments in different facts of life we need more power which helps in production, progress and development. There is a strong correlation between per capita GDP and per capita electricity consumption of a country.
He explained the importance of pursuing higher studies then the entrepreneurship is mother path through which students can build their own industry to create modern technology through innovations and ideas. He also insisted the students to serve the country with excellence in the engineering sectors for enhancing with quality of life through generation in the country. The engineering/ technology graduates are about 15,00,000 per year and l am sure that a considerable percentage of these graduates would take part in core engineering and serve the country with high innovation potential.
As all of you in engineering profession are aware of the importance of power generation. l am sure you would have realized how valuable each of your contributions means to improving and adding to the growth of power in the country. Power could ber produced with high capacity as we build more plants and facilities. Engineers like you are going to be the value added assets to serve in the generation of power by all sectors for achieving excellence in GDP, literacy, social and economic fonts. My humble request to all of you is to serve the country with the excellence in the core engineering sectors for enhancing the quality of life through energy generation in the country.
To promote our country in the world map as leader of technologies and not as borrower of technologies we all need to join together and work harder.
