Rotary Special Sports 2024: Unleashing Potential
Chennai, 16th March, 2024: Building on this legacy, under the dynamic leadership of President Mr. Ajay Hemakumar, Secretary Dr. Santosh Kumar, and Project Chair Mr. Zulfi, the Rotary Club of Chennai Central Elite proudly organised the “Rotary Special Sports 2024” today, at MNM Jain Engineering College, Thoraipakkam.
This grand event showcased a spotlight on the abilities of over 1400 differently abled students from across Chennai. The Rotary Special Sports 2024 encompassed participation from over 75 schools, more than 250 events designed to showcase the diverse talents of the participants. engaging of 450 volunteers to ensure a seamless and supportive environment.
Mr. Kirubakara Raja, the General Secretary for Tamil Nadu Paralympic Sports Association, was the esteemed chief guest at event. Guest of Honour were Mr. Muthu Raj, who clinched two bronze medals in shot put and discus throw at the Asian Paralympics 2023 and RTN. AKS Ravi Raman, District Governor RI District 3232.
The children were segregated into age group of 6-10 years, 11 -14 years, 15- 18 years in boys and girl’s category and they participated in games like running 50 meters and 100 metres, cricket ball throwing, running and breaking potato gathering, long jump, skipping 100 metres. The winners were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals along with certificates. Distribution of 550 prizes and 2000 return gifts were given at the event.
Expressing his gratitude to all his members, President, The Rotary Club of Chennai Central Elite, Mr. Ajay Hemakumar, said, “The Rotary special sports stand as a testament to the resilience and strength of the human spirit. This initiative aims not only to celebrate the extraordinary talents of these special children but also to foster a more inclusive society where every individual’s potential is recognized and nurtured.”
Thanking all the members and volunteers, RTN. Mr. Zulfi Ahmed, Sports head, The Rotary Club of Chennai Central Elite, said, “This is the third season of Rotary special sports and it serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for us all. Let us cheer on these incredible athletes, not just for their medals, but for the boundless courage and heart they bring to this event.”
Winning the running race, student Mariyam Fathima, from, MGR School, said, “I would like to thank Rotary Club of Chennai Central Elite for organising sport event for us to showcase our talents. This is my first time that I am participating in a sport event like this along with so many students. It has boosted my confidence and courage and bring in competitiveness among our peers and athleticism in us.”
The club had conducted two seasons of special sports event in the year 2017 & 2018 , a sporting event for underprivileged special children. The Rotary Club of Chennai Central Elite’s unwavering commitment to community service and this event proved to be a testament to what can be achieved when we come together to support and celebrate each other’s unique abilities.
