Chennai: As part of National campaign on energy conservation, the Ministry of Power in co-operation with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and POWERGRID Corporation of India Ltd (A Govt. of India Enterprise) organised a painting competition for school students. Over 40,000 students participated across Tamil Nadu. The valedictory function of the Tamil Nadu state level painting competition for school students was held today at Anna University campus, Chennai. Dr P Hariharan, Dean, College of Engineering, Guindy, Annu University, Chennai was the Chief Guest. Dr R.Saravanan, Head of Mechanical Engineering, CEG, Anna University was the Guest of Honour.
Mr. M.M.Jeyaseelan, Sr.DGM, POWERGRID who was the Nodal Officer for conducting State level Painting Competition for Tamilnadu has welcomed and addressed the gathering about need and importance of conducting the painting competition on Energy Conservation among School Children and emphasized the role of POWERGRID in this mission of Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India.
The competition, conducted in two categories – Cat-A (5th-7th standards) and Cat-B (8th-10th standards) – encouraged students to express their creativity on energy-saving themes. Participating schools, registered on the BEE-Online web portal, sent the hard copies of their two best drawings in each category to the Nodal Officer.
The objective of conducting painting competitions for the school students of these Categories is to foster awareness about energy conservation among young minds, encourage sustainable practices and develop artistic skills. The painting competition received an overwhelming response, showcasing the enthusiasm and creativity of Tamil Nadu’s young talent.
In the first phase, out of the hardcopies of the paintings submitted, the best 50 paintings in each Category have been selected to participate in the State Level Painting Competition. The selection has been done by expert jury members, comprising renowned persons in the fields of Arts & Drawings.
Themes for this year’s (2025) Painting competition are “ONE PLANET, ONE CHANCE-SAVE ENERGY or ENERGY CONSERVATION:MY RESPONSIBILITY, OUR FUTURE”
The Chief Guest Dr Dr P Hariharan, Dean, College of Engineering, Guindy, Annu University, Chennai gave away the cash prize to the winners of the State Level Painting competition.
Winners of Category-A:
• 1st Prize: Name – K.A.Hanish – Senthil Public School, Salem
• 2nd Prize: Name – A.Vishvadh – NPS International School, Chennai
• 3rd Prize: Name – S.Shahasra – Senthil Public School, Salem
Winners of Category-B:
• 1st Prize: Name- S.B.GOKULA KRISHNAN – Velammal Matric higher Secondary School, Chennai
• 2nd Prize: Name- K.E.SETHURAM– D.A.V Boys Higher Secondary School, Mogappair, Chennai
• 3rd Prize: Name- D.T.ABINESH, SBOA School & Montfort Matric Higher Secondary School, Chennai
The winners will now represent Tamil Nadu at the National Level Painting Competition scheduled 12.12.2025, continuing their journey as ambassadors of energy efficiency.
